So what's going on here? That's not the memory - that's the storage space. However, the first step will be to open Task Manager and see what the utilisation is and what applications and processes are using your computer's resources: Usually the only way to clear that is to shut down and restart the computer. Some older applications (especially those not designed specifically for Windows 10) can suffer from what's known as 'memory leakage' whereby they don't release the memory after they have been using it, so eventually it all gets utilised. It could well be that you have lots of other applications and/or background processes going on that are taking up too much RAM at the time you are trying to open the photos. The reference to the hard disk space is where Windows will save some temporary files if there isn't enough RAM to run the task(s) you are asking it to perform. The memory is how much RAM your computer has - most likely 4 or 8GB (although some will have 16GB or even 32GB these days).
That's not the memory - that's the storage space. Not only that, but I can see them perfectly clearly, both in the email and also in Photoshop, the latter which I used to see if doing a 'Save As' might resolve things. Trust me, there's absolutely loads of available memory space on my PC, 1.24Tb to be precise.

Close some programs that you aren’t using or free some hard disk space (if it’s almost full) and then try again. Windows Photo Viewer can’t display this picture because there might not be enough memory available on your computer. Strange thing is, although they're ostensibly straightforward jpegs originating from a mobile phone, the following message appears when I try to open them: When you think about it, how else would I know if he'd done a proper job?! At my request, I've just been sent some pictures that a chap took after he'd cleared all my gutters recently.
